Anxiety and School Avoidance: A Primer for Parents – Dr. Allen Weg

On March 15, 2016, WW-P Community Education and the WW-P Education Foundation are hosting “ Anxiety and School Avoidance: A Primer for Parents.” Dr. Allen-Weg - Anxiety Lecture

This lecture will feature Dr. Allen Weg, a New Jersey licensed psychologist, who received his doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Rutgers University. This presentation is a practical guide for parents whose child is having difficulty going to school or is flat out refusing to do so. It reviews the different sources of school anxiety, and looks at very specific techniques and interventions that parents can apply in helping their child successfully negotiate anxiety in an effort to haven them return to school. It answers the very real questions, “What do I say?” and “What do I do?” Techniques will be demonstrated and/or illustrated, so you will have a clear idea of how to answer these questions. In addition, issues around dealing with the unmotivated and oppositional child, as well as parent/child boundaries, will be addressed. Finally, we will review how to work in tandem with school personnel regarding re-integrating your child back into school. There will be an opportunity to ask questions.

This lecture will be held on March 15th from 7 PM to 10 PM in the Theater at Grover Middle School. The program is free, but registration is required. Click here to register, through WW-P Community Education.
